End of the 2016 excavation campaign

As planned, on July 15th the geoarchaeological excavation in the Cerro San Cristobal (Logrosán) was finished. The results can be considered very satisfactory, since, in general, the initial objectives have been achieved: 1) The detection of Protohistoric mining works; and 2) the characterization of habitation and working areas. Both the extension of the excavated squares in previous campaigns and the new ones excavated during this season, including a 215 m long trench, have provided a huge volume of geological, archaeo-mining and archaeological information, that will be processed over the next few months. Before ending the 2016 campaign, an Open Day visit was organized, attended by a group of more than thirty people.

In the archaeological campaign ten workers from Logrosán, hired by the city council, and a group of graduates and students of the Degree of History and Historical Heritage of the UEX (Cristina Mena Méndez, David Arjona Fernández, Manuel M. Algaba Dávila and Silvia Núñez Morillo) have participated. In the geological and mineralogical assessment, Ester Boixereu i Vila, Pauline Dobrowolska, M. Dolores Hernández Corbalán and Antonio Caño Mudarra have collaborated. The archaeological team was formed by Alonso Rodríguez Díaz, Ignacio Pavón Soldevila, David Duque Espino, Mark Hunt Ortiz and Jairo Serrano Guerrero. Our appreciation and gratitude to all of them, as well as to the city council of Logrosán and to Minas de Logrosán project for their help and assistance during these weeks.
